What are Silver Fillings?

The FDA considers the trace amount of mercury found in silver fillings to be safe for patients over the age of six.

This makes silver fillings best suited for repairing the back teeth, which experience more wear and tear than other teeth. Compared to other types of fillings, silver fillings are less likely to break. They are also less expensive than other metal filling material options.

What are Tooth-Colored Fillings?

Also known as composite fillings, tooth-colored fillings are a popular alternative to silver and other metal filling material. Tooth-colored fillings are made from a plastic composite resin that we use to repair cavities and chipped or cracked teeth. We can shade the filling material to match the rest of your teeth, making for a more natural-looking restoration. This makes them best suited for your front teeth and the visible surfaces in your mouth. Tooth-colored fillings can also be used to repair the back teeth, but they are more likely to chip than silver fillings.
